Shell is doing many things to improve the gender balance of our workforce. We are focusing on attracting, developing and promoting more women, and we are supporting initiatives that encourage girls to study science, technology and engineering.
But we also need to create the right culture and environment, one where people are aware of the impact of their words and actions. Even small conversations that are biased - consciously or unconsciously - can undermine people's confidence and cut short careers.
